BIO

Daniel Silver has been a strength and conditioning coach for nearly 10 years.  He has spent tens of thousands of hours coaching athletes, weekend warriors, recreational lifters, as well as people who have simply fallen out of the habit of exercise due to a hectic life or injury.

He has also never understood why bios are always written in third person.

I’d like you to get to know ME.

I think that’s important.  You can find more about The Gym in the philosophy page a click away, as well as a lot of stuff on the blog that will give you a good idea what it is like to train at the gym.  I’ve spent the last 10 years learning from some of the best minds in their fields, taking what I’ve learned, adopting what works, and developing it into a strong adaptable system.  This allows me to help anyone, regardless of what kind of exercise they love (or hate).

I’ve been in gyms since I was 12.  Something at the time told me that even though I had no idea HOW or WHAT I was going to do to get there, being stronger would help me in sports and life.  Even before that, I can now look back and say that I have been obsessed with human movement and performance from a very young age.

I grew up with a parent with a disability.  Even though I did not think of it as abnormal, it taught me how difficult and frustrating it can be not having the ability to do what you want when you want without feeling tired, in pain, self-conscious or even incapable.

I saw my first World’s Strongest Man and my first ballet in the same year.  I would watch my friends break dance and then go watch the Sonics play basketball.  I have played nearly every sport, worked every form of manual labor and also performed in dance and theater.  Through all of this, I realized that while impressive and fun, being a singular athlete was not a true representation of the awesomeness that the human being can be.

In a way, you could say that fitness and performance was my first passion in life. The goal of The Gym is to help spread that message of fitness to as many people as possible. The message that dogma and arrogance lose every time.  I have faith in MY system because it is a system devised around helping PEOPLE, whereas most systems are about why this one program is best for everyone.

My second passion is helping people. Plain and simple.  I always thought I would end up being a teacher or a social worker. I’ve always wanted to help change the world for the better, even in a small way.  I just never thought growing up I would be able to combine the two into a career, but here we are.

My door is always open, just drop a line or give a call.
